My Life - 01/11/10

Happy Binary Day!

Today started out like any day. My back was in extreme pain from a sliding injury last night, I was tired and disoriented, I was alive.

I went through the day as most days go, boring, boring, boring. Period four I started writing a longer piece that will be published in a few day and then did a few shorter pieces. Realizing I couldn't rely on other to get my work out there, so I took into my own hands to get my word out. And thus my best blog yet has been published. You're welcome Jenn.

So what'd I do after school today? I twat, twittered, tweeted, what ever you may call it.

[Follow me here]

I went to improv and HOLY SHIT! It has just clicked. We are at the best place I've ever seen our team. All five events are off the wall good: YES ALL FIVE! It was perfect. I feel so good about it, but at risk for exposing our devious secret / laziness I won't go into it anymore.

More tomorrow. xoxo Gossip Brett [Never again will I do that, I apologize]

News items of the day: Tiger's Faith and Obama Yields to Locke.

This happened about a week ago, but makes me restate how god awful the FOX News Network continues to be. It's not just Glenn Beck that's awful it's the whole thing. If you want real news go to MSNBC or even Comedy Central for Jon Stewart.

Watch this:

I am a HUGE Lost fan. A few days ago I heard that Barack Obama's State of the Union address was
going to be on Feb. 2nd: the date Lost is slated to debut for its final season. I was furious that Obama
would take this from me, which I must admit is a bit stupid. Thankfully Obama reschedualed for all the
Losties out there and Lost will begin the best thing ever to hit TV Feb. 2nd.

Brett's Adam and Eve

Warning the religious / sexist satire could offend some.

Sexism dates back to when the artist who wrote the bible made Adam come before ever. That is the point it was over for women. It is the chicken vs. the egg debate: how could the birthee come before the birther. A woman who could "immaculate conceive" vs. a man who can do what? Jack it and spill his seed all over the ground. I'm surprised Adam didn't die from complications of having a rib removed: medicine didn't come into its own until the Italian Renaissance. At very least when he was thrown out of utopia he should have been injured and with out the rib there it could've been bad. Who's to say he even had a full 8 ribs when he was born / "made". Evolution means he could have had less. Speaking of sexism: another nail in the coffin is when that dumb ass Eve listened to a snake. A fucking snake! What is this? A Disney movie? Eve might as well be a talking platypus is the antagonist is a talking snake. It's just like a women to take something she can't have. She wants it bigger, better, or more glamorous. All stereotypes that lend themselves to sexism go along with Adam and Eve. Men come first. Women are stupid and ruin good things. Something is never enough for a woman. Well I'd like to make the point no human should yield to another: society should run with equity and not buy into stereotypes of biblical nature, or any nature for that fact. Oh, and by the way no matter where on earth you are it gets a bit chilly at night. God, give them a fucking blanket.

Weekly Picks.

This week's TV series is:

Kenny vs Spenny

This show is pure brilliance. Hilarious, smart, en
tertaining, lude, and just a pleasure to watch. The format is each week they compete against each other is competitions ranging from the normal (Who can win a ten mile race, who can stay awake the longest, etc.) to the bizarre (Who can "69" longe
st, who can wear a
chicken coop on th
eir head the longest, etc.) Kenny is ofter the victor by cheating, however the fair playing Spenny does win occasionally. The loser must perform a humiliation the victor chooses. Though the humor may be lost on some people who get offended or grossed out easily, if you give the show a chance there is no way you cannot deny the comedic genius of these two best friends.

Brett's Favorite Episode

Season 3 Episode 3.
"Who can wear a dead octopus on their head the longest"

This week's musical artist is:

The Eagles

Although I've been on an indie bender with Arcade Fire and
Phoenix, I revisited the Eagle's greatest hits and knew why I didn't delete this classic group when my musical taste started to change. My dad and I always have had similar tastes is music. Both of our favorite bands are Supertramp and anything with Jack White. So I'm thinking for me it's a biological attraction to the Eagles' easy listening rock. The stories the lyrics tell are timeless. Tails of cheating, just living life, and love are fables anyone can relate to. The music itself is nothing short of spectacular. The harmonies just make me squee inside.

Favorite Eagles' Song

Tie between Witchy Woman and Seven Bridges Road.

I love Witch Woman because the harmonies on the chorus are to die for and the heavy drum beat is one that my heart sets itself to while listening. Seven Bridges Road is un-fucking-believable. My favorite harmonies of all time.

This week's song is:

Richard Harris' Macarthur Park

One word to describe this metaphor filled song is epic. With huge orchestral breaks, Harris' extremely high voice, and just the image of that beautiful cake. Though the song has been heavily criticized over the ages I still enjoy. I came to find this song one day after a Benny Swimm rehearsal. Ross, Stu, and I where heading in from the old courthouse and it came on. I didn't think of it much then, but the second time I heard it was again on the radio and I was with Ross and we cranked it. Just epic. I now the entire chorus and just rock out to it. Oh did I mention Richard Harris played Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies? Yeah. Now it's that much more epic.

If the song is too long for you fast forward to about 4.50. That's when the best part starts.

This week's movie is:

Schindler's List

I can't say I'm a fan at all of Steven Spielberg, but I must say bravo. I'm ashamed I hadn't seen this until this week, but there's something about war time movies that takes a man and what he seems to be on the outside and transforms him into something completely opposite. Heroic, tragic, and beautiful. Liam Nelson is a brilliant actor, I knew that before this, but this movie just makes him so much bigger and better.

Next week I'll get off my classic rock bender.

Unfiltered Smoke.

Jason Wilson was a local in my town until he moved to Halifax. Just before he moved he started a sight for the creatively gifted to use as an outlet. Now this website has almost daily updates and is a delight to read.
I have one article on it currently, but I'm working on more.

First of many.

Hey,

Well I guess I don't have to explain you're reading a blog that is written by Brett Loughery, so if you're not looking for that you're in the wrong place. Anyways this is a blog and this time I will actually keep up to date. I've been writing a lot lately and instead of sending it all off to Jason W. at Unfiltered Smoke I've decided to post it myself.

This blog will include, but not be limited to:
- Short stories and other creative pieces.
- Personal Reflections / Journals
- My opinions on stuff (Very vague, eh?)
- Weekly Favorites.
- A once weekly vlog
- News item of the day.

Hope you enjoy!
